going fishing for steelhead for first time?
No experience or equipment for river fishing, have inland fished most of my life, so have that usual equipment. Have done some research, but would like some more input. No fly fishing advice, that’s for another time. Thanks in advance.
edit-i’ve done a lot of speckle trout fishing, they can be a tough catch for sure. Would they be similar to rainbow/steelhead then.
i do a little, and read more, and watch tv more.
a steelhead rod and matching reel. i have 2 gander mtn. steely rods. 1 is 6 pound test, 7 footer. #2 is a 9 footer, 8 pound test.
# 6 to 4 salmon hook, tied with a polymor knot. use an egg sack, single egg- natural or man made, 12 inches to a slit shot, cast up stream, let it drift down like dead ones. keep line tight on drift.
night crawlers and minnows do good. eggs are best.
try some spoons- cleo types, some minnow like stick baits.
