fly fishing books for beginners
Which flies hatch in which month in the uk?

I’m a beginner and would like to know which is the best magazine or website or book etc for matching the hatch in the UK?

I mainly fish reservoirs but am ever more keen to fish the rivers too. I have quite a good selection of flies, I think, but don’t know the patterns which are most successful in each month and think it would improve my fishing if I did. I change the fly around every ten to fifteen minutes until I find the ones that are being taken on that particular day and I manage quite well that way.

Any recommendations or suggestions from the more experienced anglers out there would be greatly appreciated!

Firstly i must say this, don’t take any offense to it, BUT learning the fly life in streams and other water ways, and the entomology of each insect takes a life time to learn, there are books, however, if i was to go into each insect,a nd the flies you can use to match it we would eb here for days, there are simple guides that can help, but the key is to talk to anglers where you intend to fish, eg, a fly might only hatch in the late evening on one river, but due to waterside vegetation, it may be mid day on another. This is about the best explanation ive seen so far in book form
